The proposal to give the work to Civil Engineers Limited was accepted at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase on Wednesday.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith presided over the meeting.

Joint Secretary Mostafizur Rahman said the 10-storey building will have a foundation for a 20-storey building, thereby keeping open room for future expansion.

It will have two basements and will be located at Segunbagicha in Dhaka, he said.

Housing and public works ministry submitted the proposal, he added.

NSI is the country's premier domestic intelligence agency with grassroots-level reach.

But the agency came under a cloud over the involvement of some of its top officials in the 2004 Chittagong arms haul case. Two of them were sentenced to death.

250,000 tons wheat to be purchased

The cabinet committee also cleared proposals to purchase 100,000 tons of wheat through international tender in two packages and 150,000 tons at the government level.

Netherlands-based Glencore Grain BV got the contract to supply the wheat, Joint Secretary Rahman said.

The first package of 50,000 tons wheat will cost around Tk 966 million (TK 965,775,000) with $ 244.5 per ton wheat.

Bangladesh will have to pay around Tk 1.032 billion with $ 261.25 per ton.

The government will import 150,000 tons wheat from Ukraine at nearly Tk 3.1 billion.
