Bangladesh’s inflation rate has risen again in July following a slight decline in June.
Compared with June, inflation increased in both food and non-food sectors across rural and urban areas, according to a report by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) published on Thursday.
The latest BBS data shows overall inflation in July rose by 0.07 percentage points to 8.55 percent, up from 8.48 percent in June.
In addition, food inflation rose by 0.17 percentage points to 7.56 percent in July, compared with 7.39 percent in June.
Non-food inflation was 9.37 percent in June but climbed slightly to 9.38 percent in July, a rise of 0.01 percentage points.
In rural areas, overall inflation rose by 0.09 percentage points in July, reaching 8.55 percent from 8.46 percent in June.
Rural food inflation grew from 7.14 percent in June to 7.36 percent in July.
In the non-food sector, it ticked up to 9.73 percent in July from 9.72 percent in June.
On the other hand, in urban areas, overall inflation rose by 0.1 percentage points in July, reaching 8.95 percent, up from 8.94 percent in June.
Within this, food inflation in urban areas stood at 8.04 percent in July, compared with 7.99 percent in June. Non-food inflation rose from 9.53 percent in June to 9.55 percent in July.
