Bangladesh has raised its overall export earnings target to $63.5 billion for the 2025-26 fiscal year, up 16.5 percent from last year’s goal.
Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman announced the new target at a media briefing in Dhaka on Tuesday, noting that exports in FY25 totalled about $55 billion.
The government has set a $55bn target for goods exports, a 13.4 percent increase, and an $8.5 billion goal for services, representing an 18.67 percent growth.
Last year, goods exports netted $48.28 billion, or 97 percent of the $50 billion target, while services brought in $5.77 billion against a $7.5 billion goal.
Speaking at the event, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) President Mohammad Hatem said recent progress in tariff talks with the US could help surpass the target.
But he warned that persistent challenges remain, including gas shortages, customs and banking sector issues, and concerns over law and order.
