The decision aims at bringing the marginalised 'Hijra' group, having a population of 10,000, to the mainstream.

The government recognised them as the ‘third gender’ in 2013, ending their identity crisis.

The Bangladesh Bank’s special order issued on Wednesday also asked banks to give loans to marginalised people living with disabilities, women entrepreneurs, and all tribal communities including the Rakhine for SMEs.
