Dhaka, May 10 (bdnews24.com) – Invigilators expelled 301 students on charges of copying in their higher secondary certificate or equivalent exams that began Thursday, an official said.
Of them, 243 were from vocational institutes, 15 were from madarasas and 43 from other institutes, said Nasiruddin Sikder, who is in charge of the exam control room at the education ministry.
More than 5.41 lakh students from within and outside the country are taking the exams. Five centers abroad are in Libya, Riyadh, Jeddah, Abu Dhabi and Doha, according to an education ministry estimate.
The number of participants was 23,000 higher this year from a year earlier.
The authorities cancelled some centres for poor management and added some new, an education ministry official said, declining to give further details. The exam was held at 1,832 centers across the country.
On the first day of the exam, education advisor Ayub Quadri visited four exam centres: Notre Dame College, Siddheswari University College, Lalmatia Housing Society Girls School and Mohammadpur Kadaria Toyabia Kamil Madrasa.
Quadri, visiting Siddeswary University College, expressed dissatisfaction over the smaller number of invigilators than required.
Meanwhile, the education ministry initiated a countrywide campaign against copying in the examination and directed the invigilators to take a tough line on copying.
