Independent University, Bangladesh has taken first place in the Shaheed Tanvin Innovation Award category at Innoverse Bangladesh 2025.
The award was won by IUB FormulaE, a team of students from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, for developing a fully self-developed electric vehicle powertrain intended for a Formula Student electric car.
The two-day event, held on Nov 14-15 at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, brought together leading university-level innovations from across the country.
According to IUB, the powertrain centres on a redesigned low-voltage three-phase induction motor built to enhance safety, accessibility and efficiency for local EV applications, complemented by an in-house Variable Frequency Drive.
The system is powered by a 60V LiFePO₄ battery pack fitted with a smart Battery Management System to improve safety, durability and performance.
IUB FormulaE says the project offers a scalable and cost-effective EV powertrain tailored for Bangladesh, with a focus on reducing dependence on imported components while maintaining affordability.
The team considers the design a potential foundation for advancing clean electric mobility in the country.
Innoverse Bangladesh 2025 was organised by Whiteboard Initiatives, with support from the ICT Division and a2i.
Entries were assessed on innovation, technical completeness, applicability, impact and presentation.
