Daffodil International University (DIU) has inaugurated a new road connecting Dewan Bari, Kakabo, Dattapara and Daffodil Smart City (DSC) in Ashulia.

The road was opened on Tuesday, as part of efforts to improve connectivity and support planned urban development in the area.

The project was implemented through a joint initiative between DSC and DIU, with support from the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), funded by the government.

MP for Dhaka-19 Dewan Mohammad Salauddin attended the inauguration ceremony as chief guest.

Among others present were DIU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammad Masum Iqbal, Registrar Mohammad Nadir Bin Ali and Proctor Sheikh Muhammad Allaiyar, along with local representatives, academics and community leaders.

Speaking at the event, Salauddin said improved transport infrastructure would contribute to broader socio-economic development by increasing access to education, business opportunities and employment.

He also highlighted the role of private sector participation in complementing government development efforts.

According to organisers, the road project addresses a long-standing demand of residents and is expected to improve travel for local people, including students, teachers and workers, while increasing access to markets and service facilities.

DIU Board of Trustees Chairman Md Sabur Khan said the broader vision of Daffodil Smart City extends beyond infrastructure development and includes improving quality of life, expanding educational opportunities and supporting sustainable urban growth.

Speakers at the event said the upgraded road could also create new opportunities in transport, small businesses and local services, while contributing to the wider development of Ashulia as an emerging smart urban area.
