Munshiganj, Oct 9 (bdnews24.com)—The Department of Environment (DoE) on Tuesday fined Shah Cement Industries Ltd, a concern of Abul Khair Group, Tk 2.7 million for polluting air in Munshiganj.
A team of the environment watchdog led by its Director (Enforcement) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury slapped the fine on the Managing Director of the factory located on the bank of the Dhaleshwari River at Muktarpur in the district.
The factory authorities were also directed to set up air pollution prevention and control technologies within 60 days, the DoE said in a media statement.
It said a DoE enforcement team on Sep 27 found that the Suspended Particulate Matter in the air in the adjacent areas of the factory was 614 microgram per cubic meter against the acceptable level of 200 microgram per cubic meter.
The industrial unit was fined considering the health issue of the labours of the factory and passengers of the water vessels, the statement added.
