Bangladesh has posted $48.28 billion in export earnings in the 2024–25 fiscal year, registering an 8.58 percent year-on-year growth despite months of political and labour unrest.
The updated figures, shared by Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Vice Chairman Anwar Hossain with bdnews24.com on Wednesday, show that the country earned $3.81 billion more than in the previous fiscal year, when exports totalled $44.47 billion.
While the full-year performance showed positive growth, monthly figures tell a more volatile story.
In June 2025, Bangladesh exported $3.34 billion worth of goods, which was 7.55 percent lower than the $3.61 billion exported in June 2024, a drop of $272.4 million.
Exports suffered significantly during mid-July through the months following Aug 5, when anti-government protests escalated into violent clashes after the fall of the Awami League government.
The worsening law-and-order situation severely impacted production across several sectors.
Labour unrest peaked in late September and early October, with September’s exports dipping to $3.52 billion, the second lowest monthly figure of the fiscal year.
The lowest came in April 2025, when monthly exports slumped to $3.02 billion.
The garment industry, the country’s primary export sector, earned $39.35 billion in FY2025, up 8.84 percent from $36.15 billion the previous year.
Textile exports stood at $871.5 million, marking a 2.42 percent increase from $851 million the year before.
Exports of leather and leather products rose by 10.19 percent, bringing in $1.15 billion, compared with $1.04 billion in FY2024.
Agricultural products earned $988.6 million in export revenue, up 2.52 percent from $964.3 million in the previous fiscal year.
Among other notable sectors, plastics posted a 16.21 percent growth, rubber 14.92 percent, and handicrafts 7.78 percent.
However, some sectors saw declines as wood and wood products dropped sharply by 30 percent, while jute and jute goods fell by 4.10 percent compared with the previous year.
