Dhaka, Jan 16 (bdnews24.com) –The caretaker government vows to be tough on corruption, adviser Tapan Chowdhury Tuesday said.
"Corrupt people think they can get away with anything, but that is going to change," he told reporters in his power division office.
"We will restore the trust of people in government and restore the rule of law."
"This administration will be stern with corrupt people."
But election-related anomalies were the Election Commission's responsibility to solve, he said.
He said the emergency ordinance would be revised and modified to make public life easier.
"The council of advisers will meet Tuesday evening to discuss voter identity cards and to take stock of the situation in the country."
Chowdhury said the polls should not be held before identity cards were prepared.
The government had already begun looking into the voter ID process, he said.
"I have discussed voter IDs with a Chinese expert, and with the science ministry."
The adviser sounded an optimistic note on the possibility for less confrontational politics.
"The political parties may not agree on everything but they have agreed to come together to let this caretaker government deliver free and fair polls," he said.
Chowdhury warned of power shortages but vowed to try to bring down the energy deficit.
He declined to comment on controversial power sector projects undertaken by the previous government.
