Dhaka, Dec 5 (BDNEWS) – Cultural personalities Monday said that late journalist and freedom fighter Shahadat Chowdhury, editor of the Weekly 2000, had worked for a secular, progressive and democratic Bangladesh.
They said Shahadat Chowdhury would remain alive in the hearts of people forever for his life-long contribution in the field of journalism.
Cultural leaders made the comments at a commemorating meeting at the central Shaheed Minar to remember Shahadat Chowdhury. Shammilito Sangskritic Jote organised the meeting.
Dhaka University Teachers' Association president Prof AAMS Arfin Siddique, Workers' Party president Rashed Khan Menon, Weekly 2000 acting editor Golam Murtaza, writer Shahriar Kabir, poet and novelist Syed Shamsul Haq, artist Rafiqunnabi, cultural personality Ramendu Mojumdar, Shammilito Sangskritic Jote president Nasiruddin Yusuf, Shahadat Chowdhury's wife Selina Chowdhury and daughter Shasha Chowdhury were present at the meeting and also spoke.
Addressing the meeting, Prof AAMS Arfin Siddique said Shahadat Chowdhury joined the freedom fighting to establish a repression free, secular and democratic country, which is yet to be fulfilled.
"This is time to unite the nation to fulfil his dream," he added.
Syed Samsul Haq said the country is now facing a challenge against militancy, about which Shahadat Chowdhury gave warning through his magazine. If the government took actions against the militants, the situation might not be so drastic.
