Dhaka, July 21 (bdnews24.com) — The Supreme Court has stayed a High Court order that granted bail to Saiful Islam Duke in August 21 grenade attack case, as a leave-to-appeal by the government is yet to be disposed of.
Accepting the leave-to-appeal on Thursday, the full bench of the Appellate Division ordered the government to submit the summary of the appeal within five weeks.
The supplementary charge-sheet filed in the case was also submitted to the bench.
The new charge-sheet was pressed on July 3 indicting 30 more accused, including BNP chief Khaleda Zia's son Tarique Rahman and nephew Duke.
With the naming of the new faces, the number of charge-sheeted accused in the case has reached 52.
Duke secured bail from the High Court on May 4 after he was shown arrested in the case.
But as the state appealed against the bail order, the chamber judge put a stay order and sent the petition for hearing in the full bench.
