Dhaka, Nov 26 (bdnews24.com)— Ekushey Padak winner and one of the most read story writers of Bangladesh Rashid Karim has passed away.
He was 86.
He breathed his last around 3am on Saturday in the city's BIRDEM hospital, his family said.
Rashid's first namaz-e-janaza was held in Dhanmondi's Baitul Aman mosque premises after johr prayers. Then, his body was taken to his residence in Dhanmondi. His last namaz-e-janaza will be held at Bangla Academy premises around 4pm on Saturday.
He is scheduled to be buried in the martyr intellectuals memorial ground late on Saturday, said Dhaka Shahitya Angan members.
"Rashid Karim is one of the best story writers of Bangladesh" is how late poet Shamsur Rahman once described his best friend.
"His modern language in 'Uttam Purush' is very easy to grasp."
'Proshonno Pashan', 'Amar Joto Glani', 'Prem Ekti Laal Golap' and 'Shadharon Loker Kahini' are among his other novels. His articles have been published in three volumes. 'Prothom Prem' is his story book.
Rahid Karim was born on Aug 14, 1925 in Kolkata. He came to Bangladesh soon after the division of India and Pakistan. Bangladesh's war of independence and Sheikh Mujib's traces can be found in his writings.
He was awarded the Bangla Academy Award in 1972 for his contribution to Bangla literature and Ekushey Padak in 1984. He also received the Adamjee Award in 1969.
