The prosecution has demanded further investigation into the accident that occurred in November 2012.

Public Prosecutor (PP) Md Fakruddin Chowdhury submitted a disapproval plea in the court of the Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge, SM Mojibur Rahman, on Tuesday.

Chowdhury told bdnews24.com that the state had also pleaded for further probe into the case.

June 18 has been fixed as the next hearing date, court officials said.

Case investigation officer of the Chandgaon Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Rezaul Karim had submitted the charge-sheet against eight people on Oct 24 last year.

On Nov 24, 2012, three girders of a flyover being built by the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) caved in, killing 13 people.

A case of death caused by negligence was lodged with the Chandgaon police two days later.

Twenty-five people including the then Director of the flyover project Executive Engineer Habibur Rahman and high-level CDA officials faced charges.

Other accused included officials from contractor firm Mir Akhtar and Parisa Trade Systems and the consultant firm, SARM Associates.

During the court hearing on Apr 15 this year, former public prosecutor Kamal Uddin Ahmed objected to the manner in which the investigation was being done, as police had dropped the names of 18 suspects from the charge-sheet.

The court deferred the hearing to June 3 with the prosecution seeking time for further probe and review of case documents.
