Many online activists in scathing posts said the government gave institutional endorsement to cyber terrorism by providing the vulgar, organised group on the internet with a share of taxpayer’s money.
Though the online outfit claim to be pro-liberation, critics say it is the pro-liberation activists who are primary targets of their assaults.
The group is also accused of harassing women in the cyberspace for their opposition.
The information and communication technology (ICT) ministry has been condemned on the social media platforms after the news broke on Tuesday that it donated Gang Tk 400,000.
The group is also alleged to have propagated bitter remarks on the mass movement at Shahbagh after Feb 5, 2013 seeking maximum punishment for those convicted for war crimes.

The list of those who faced their wrath includes the big names like State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak and Railways Minister Md Mazibul Hoque.
CP Gang chief Russell Rahman posted a selfie of Palak and wrote: “Honourable State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak has posted selfie from Parliament for the first time in Bangladesh’s history. We are so proud of him. We propose his name on Guinness Book (of World Records).”
CP Gang’s Shakib Raditullah posted another photo of Palak with his wife and wrote: “Want to see Advocate Zunaid Ahmed Palak MP as the prosecutor of the tribunal (Bangladesh will get the chance to learn history if he gets the job there).”
A Facebook user named Rishad Ahmed Rushdi said the group was given the dole for ‘inventing abuse’.
One Md Kaysar wrote, “I am astonished after reading the news just a few minutes ago. Hail troll.”
Munshi Zakir Hossain termed the Gang as ‘nothing but a sanctuary of psychos’.
One Kamal H Majumder Moon wondered if ‘CP represented Awami League’.
CP Gang’s Russell Rahman told
bdnews24.com the group received the grant after it placed an application for an ‘innovative fund’.
“Our idea was developing an application on live streaming of Dhaka’s traffic system.”
He said, “Many a people have liked our idea. This is perhaps the reason we have got the grant.”
He said the criticism in Facebook and other platforms were merely ‘political’.
“We have been working in favour of the Liberation War without compromise. This is the reason why we are subjected to criticism,” he claimed.
