Dhaka, Feb 26 (bdnews24.com) – No one knows when private satellite TV channels nTV and RTV will be back on air but the Bangla daily newspaper Amar Desh will be out Tuesday morning in a truncated form.
All three, owned by Mosaddek Ali Falu and victims of the BSEC Bhaban blaze Monday, were counting the costs of the mid-morning fire that kept burning for hours.
Their officials gave an account of the damage caused.
"nTV has suffered a huge damage. Firstly the fire and then fire-killing water – both destroyed our many equipment. In a word, nTV has been destroyed almost completely," news editor Rezwanul Haque Raja told bdnews24.com.
Raja said he had no clue when the channel would be back to business. "The stock taking is on."
The situation is no different at RTV.
"The transmission of RTV has become completely uncertain. RTV has been completely destroyed," Chief News Editor Syed Ishtiaque Reza told bdnews24.com.
The extent of damage to Amar Desh is yet to be calculated.
"However, the publication of the paper would continue," editor Amanullah Kabir told bdnews24.com.
Amar Desh journalists said that the daily Dinkal – the BNP mouthpiece – had lent some space at its Tejgaon office for use by Amar Desh.
A third channel that planned to launch on March 26 had all its equipment and cameras gutted, its chief news editor Manzurul Alam said.
Islamic TV, housed in the same building, will have to wait some more months to go on air.
