The competition started on Feb 3 and the final round was held last Monday.

Singers Fahim Hossain Chowdhury, Salma Akbar, Sajid Akbar, Bulbul Islam, and Lily Islam judged the final round at the Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka.

The Cabinet Division and the Prime Minister’s Office initiated the competition last year to ensure that the national anthem, “Amar Sonar Bangla, Ami Tomai Bhalobasi”, is sung on the original notation.

Mohammadpur Preparatory School and College emerged as the champions for primary-level students last year as well, Tasnima Begum Elee, the music teacher of the institution, told bdnews24.com on Tuesday.

The institution’s primary-level team entered the district round after confirming their first place in the Thana round on Feb 13. They became first again to book their berth at the divisional level.

Eight teams from as many divisions competed for the crown in the final round. Mohammadpur Preparatory represented Dhaka Division.

“The students are overwhelmed to have won the competition for the second time,” Tasnim said.

The winners are twin sisters Samrin Sarwar and Sabrin Sarwar of grade three, Arunima Chowdhury of grade five, Arunima’s sister Odrika Chowdhury of grade two, grade five’s Fatima Binte Jamal, Soparjita Sen, Shreyas Paul, and Mehnaz Mahfuz, Bidushi Sarker of grade four, and Meher Afroz of grade two.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will distribute the awards of the competition at a gathering of children at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on Independence Day on Mar 26, according to the music teacher.
