The Ministry of Finance issued an order to this effect on Sunday afternoon after the Supreme Court deadlined the government several times to hike pay and perks.
The order said the revised pay scale of the Bangladesh Judicial Service will take retroactive effect from July 1, 2009.
The judges and officials of the lower court are now set to receive their due salaries as ‘arrears’ until May 8, 2013. Other benefits beside salaries will not be applicable in this case.
The government has fixed the new pay structure for members of Bangladesh Judicial Service as a revision of the salary structure that was announced for government officials and staff in Jul 1, 2009.
The highest of the new six-level salary structure has now risen from Tk 35,600 (29000-100 X 6-35600) to Tk 39,600 (3600-1200 X 3-39600).
The second level has increased from Tk 33,750 to Tk 37,750.
In the third salary level, the pay has gone up to Tk 37,000 from Tk 31,250. The fourth saw a hike from Tk 29,700 to Tk 34,200 while the fifth level is now Tk 29,200 from the former Tk 26,200.
The order says District and Sessions Judges and equivalent officials will be entitled to the highest pay scale of Tk 40,000 (fixed), as senior judge, on completion of five years of service.
All levels of employees will receive an allowance of Tk 5,000 for clothes every year, another Tk 8,000 for felicitation and medical allowance worth Tk 1,200.
The Appellate Division on Apr 25 quashed a government petition and spelt out a May 16 deadline for implementation of its ruling to increase pay scale of lower court judges.
