Jahangirnagar University, Jan 10 (bdnews24.com) -- Jahangirnagar University authorities on Tuesday permanently expelled three activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League for their reported attack on an English Department student leading to his death.
The university authorities in a press statement said the decision was taken in line with Section 4 of Proctorial Law of the university on Tuesday morning, a day after Zubair Ahmed succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Dhaka.
Zubair was beaten and stabbed allegedly by the activists of the ruling Awami League's student wing on the campus on Sunday. He died at United Hospital early Monday because of excessive bleeding from his wounds.
The expelled students are Khandakar Ashikul Islam and Khan Mohammad Rais of Zoology Department and Mohammad Rashedul Islam of Philosophy Department.
All of them are students of 2007-2008 sessions (37th batch) of the university.
Earlier on Jan 9, the authorities had temporarily expelled the trio for one year for their alleged role in the killing.
Eyewitnesses had said Zubair, a resident student of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, had gone to the campus to sit for the honours final examination on Sunday.
BCL activists had called him to Shahid Rafiq-Jabbar Hall and beat him up in the evening, they said.
He was taken to Savar's Enam Medical College Hospital with severe injuries and then shifted to the United Hospital.
Police had arrested Ashiqur Rahman from Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall following the incident on Monday.
