The Combined Military Hospital (CMH) has announced that a medical team from Singapore is being brought in to assist in the treatment of those injured in the Milestone School and College jet crash.

At a press briefing held at CMH, the hospital’s commandant Brig Gen SM Solaiman said the team is scheduled to land at 10:40pm Tuesday.

The team will operate out of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, where two patients from CMH have already been transferred.

The crash occurred on Monday afternoon when a Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crashed into the Milestone School and College premises in Diabari.

So far, 28 people have been confirmed dead, and 68 others are undergoing treatment in hospitals.

Solaiman said CMH’s emergency department was prepared within 10 minutes of receiving news of the crash.

"Initially, we received eight bodies of those who died at the scene," he noted.

He added that CMH received a total of 12 bodies directly, including the pilot’s, with two more transferred from Kurmitola General Hospital and one from Uttara Adhunik Medical College Hospital.

He said 28 injured individuals were brought in, five of whom have since been discharged. The remaining 23 are still hospitalised: six in the burn ICU, seven in the general ward, and 10 in post-operative care.

Among the ICU patients, a child has suffered burns over 52 percent of the body, while teacher Mahfuza has 30 percent burns. Another teacher, Anwar, sustained 10 percent burns, and Atik, assistant to the principal, has 30 percent. Another child and a student named Akib are also among those seriously injured.

Solaiman said the eight bodies were handed over to families on Monday night, and the pilot's remains were released on Tuesday morning. Six of the dead have not yet been identified and were taken by police for DNA testing and post-mortem examination.

Responding to rumours about the number of deaths, he said there is “nothing to hide” about the figures.

Labour Advisor Sakhawat Hussain visited the burn institute on Tuesday and confirmed that the Singaporean team would assess whether any patients need to be flown to Singapore for advanced treatment.

"If necessary, they will be transported by air ambulance, based on the doctors’ recommendations. Whatever is required will be done," he said.
