The Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) has advised former army personnel to “maintain patience and discipline” as the Bangladesh Army continues reviewing over 800 appeals seeking reconsideration of disciplinary actions.
In a statement issued on Wednesday night, the military's media wing said a total of 802 such petitions have been received so far, of which 106 have been forwarded with relevant records for final resolution.
The remaining 696 appeals are under phased scrutiny and assessment.
While acknowledging that the process may take time, the army is working with “utmost sincerity and responsibility”, the statement noted, urging everyone involved to refrain from any form of “negative activities”.
“Bangladesh Army believes that every issue can be resolved peacefully through mutual respect, compassion, and adherence to due process,” the ISPR said.
“At the same time, all are advised to uphold patience, discipline, and tolerance in every situation.”
The ISPR noted that several former soldiers had recently submitted appeals seeking a review of punitive measures taken against them.
These appeals, according to the directorate, have been received with “the highest level of attention” by Army Headquarters.
“Taking into account humanitarian and administrative realities, a high-level board has already been formed at Army Headquarters to properly review the appeals, and the board’s activities are ongoing,” the ISPR added.
The statement highlighted that Bangladesh Army has built its proud legacy through “long-standing professionalism, tireless efforts, and discipline”.
“The unquestionable loyalty, integrity, and sacrifice of every member of this force are the foundation of today’s success,” it read.
“Military discipline is the key driver of a professional army, and under military law, provisions exist to award both appropriate rewards and punishments in the interest of upholding that discipline.”
Recognising the contribution of all army personnel in protecting the country’s sovereignty, security, and stability, the ISPR said: “The nation remembers these sacrifices with gratitude.”
The government and the Bangladesh Army remain “fully respectful” towards the dignity, honour, and rightful claims of ex-servicemen and are committed to taking “positive steps” to address them, it added.
