Environment, Forest and Climate Change Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan has said simply posting on social media will not bring about societal change.

Speaking at the first convocation of the University of Scholars on Saturday, she urged students to take action on noise and plastic pollution.

“Environmental protection will determine our future.”

Addressing the students, the advisor said: “It’s not just about your own future, but also about taking responsibility for the country’s future.

“The true value of education is realised when it contributes to the progress of society and the nation.”

She added, “Society won’t change just by posting on social media; real change comes through action.”

The advisor emphasised that development must be pursued in a way that does not place excessive strain on nature.

"Nature cannot be defeated," she said. "Rather, we must live in harmony with it. We must ensure that our way of life is sustainable in the changing world."

Rizwana said, "The future of Bangladesh depends on your decisions.

“Therefore, you must move forward with ethics, values, and a sense of responsibility."

She also emphasised the need to make services more accessible and easier for the public to receive, urging that common people should not suffer from harassment.

“Now is the time to work for the country and contribute to society. With collective efforts, we can build a prosperous and sustainable Bangladesh.”

Rizwana pointed out that people often blame others but are reluctant to change themselves. “The government cannot bring about change alone. Each of us must be a part of the change.

“By becoming aware of our position, we can build a beautiful and sustainable Bangladesh.”
