Security has been ramped up at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar ahead of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s visit to pay tribute to the fallen heroes of the 1971 Liberation War.
Tarique, who returned home after 17 years in exile, is scheduled to visit the memorial on Friday.
Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Armed Police Battalion have been deployed at the site, alongside plainclothes officers.
Savar Public Works Department Deputy Assistant Engineer Anwar Hossain Khan Anu said all preparations had been completed for the visit.

On the spot, leaders and activists from different BNP affiliate bodies were seen gathering in front of the main gate of the memorial since the morning.
Several senior party leaders, including BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, were also seen entering the memorial.
Dhaka District Police Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime, Ops and Traffic North) Arafatul Islam said special security arrangements had been put in place considering Tarique’s return after a long time.
“Police, DB, plainclothes police, BGB and RAB members have been deployed,” he said.
