Dhaka, Nov 29 (BDNEWS) – Eminent journalist and editor of the Shaptahik 2000 Shahadat Chowdhury has passed away.
He died at 1.30 am on November 29 at the Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital in the capital.
He has been suffering long from septicemia. He had also heart and urine problems. A tumour was identified in his head last year and was also removed by therapy. Water clogging in lungs multiplied his complexities.
Family sources said the body of Shahadat Chowdhury would be brought at his DOHS residence at 7.30 am Wednesday.
Later, his body will be placed at Central Shaheed Minar at 11:00 am so that the people of all strata could pay him last tribute.
His namaj – e – janaja will be held at the Jatiya Press Club premises at 12:30 pm and finally he will be buried at the Mirpur Freedom Fighters' Graveyard.
Shahadat Chowdhury was born in Dhaka on July 28 in 1943.
He had participated in the liberation war in 1971 and later chose the profession of journalism aiming to build up the newly liberated country.
In his professional career, he had first joined The Dainik Bangla and later weekly Bichitra.
His contribution made Bichitra renowned in local and foreign arena.
He died while serving as the editor of Shaptahik 2000.
He has left his two wives, two daughters, two brothers and four sisters including a number of well-wishers.
Dhaka University Journalists Association (DUJA) president Kazi Saifuddin Ovee and its general secretary Imamul Haque Shamim expressed their deep condolence at his death. They also extended profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.
The DUJA leaders said the country have lost an honest, neutral and brave journalist at the death of Shahadat Chowdhury.
