Two people, including a 7-year-old boy, have been killed and three others injured after a microbus, believed to belong to the police's Detective Branch, ploughed into a battery-run autorickshaw, locally called easy bike, in Panchagarh.
The accident happened on Friday on the Panchagarh–Banglabandha highway in front of the Maitri Tea Factory, police said.
The victims were identified as Ahmad Ali, 55, of Jagdal Baliadangi, and Yasin Ali, 7, of Jagdal Goalpara. The injured included the easy bike driver Shariful Islam, 45, Yasin’s elder brother Sadekul Islam, 30, and a passenger, Priya Akter, 17.
Police said the easy bike was travelling from Panchagarh town to Jagdal Bazar when the crash occurred.

Witnesses said that a microbus heading in the opposite direction attempted to overtake a truck and hit the three-wheeler head-on. Ahmad and Yasin died shortly afterwards, while three others were taken to hospital.
Dr Shamsul Arefin of Panchagarh Sadar Hospital said both victims had already died before they were brought to the facility. The autorickshaw driver, who was critically injured, was later transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
The accident sparked protests in the area, with locals held up both the microbus and the truck, and blocking the highway for about an hour.
The microbus carried a paper sign on its dashboard, which read "DB Police" in Bangla.

One witness said the microbus struck the autorickshaw head-on before skidding off the road into a ditch. Another claimed the speed of the vehicle nearly caused it to crash into a nearby house.
Panchagarh Sadar Police Station chief Abdullah Hil Zaman said that there had been a blockade but said traffic had since resumed.
Asked if a police vehicle was involved, he said: “It cannot be confirmed at this stage. The matter is under investigation and legal action will follow.”
