Police have found a woman dead at a Rajshahi residence after responding to a 999 call.
The residence belonged to a journalist, identified as Golam Kibria Kamal, 60, a deputy editor at the Daily Rajshahi Sangbad, who was also found critically injured. His penname was Kamal Malik.
Police went to the house at 7pm on Friday after receiving a 999 call and rescued the injured with help from the Fire Service.
The injured was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
The woman was identified as Rawshan Ara, 55, the wife of the journalist.
The couple lived in a rented apartment at Horgram Bazar in the city.
Billal Hossain, an emergency section physician at the hospital, said the lady was brought dead to the hospital with a cloth wrapped around her neck.
Kamal, on the other hand, was injured in the hands and legs, the physician said, adding that Kamal swallowed some chemicals.
Police said the apartment was locked from inside when they reached there, and they had to break the door to enter the residence.
“Kamal is being shifted to ICU. He is in critical condition,” said Ahsan Habib, editor of the newspaper.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police spokesperson Gaziur Rahman suspected that the couple was responsible for what happened to them, as the door was found locked from the inside.
