BSF pushes 13 people into Feni amid adverse weather

The detainees are provided food and necessary support, says Chhagalnaiya Police Station chief

Amid adverse weather conditions, the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has pushed 13 people across the Matua border in Feni.

The incident took place in the early hours of Friday.

Mosharraf Hossain, captain of BGB-4 Feni Battalion, confirmed that Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel stationed at the Feni border detained the individuals and handed them over to Chhagalnaiya Police Station.

According to the BGB, the BSF initially blindfolded and bound the 13 Bangladeshi nationals before bringing them to the border.

Taking advantage of the stormy weather, the BSF then untied them and discreetly pushed them into Bangladeshi territory.

Due to the severe weather, darkness, and unfamiliarity with the area, the group took shelter in an abandoned house in Matua.

Among those detained are six children, three women, and four men, all residents of Kurigram.

The detainees told BGB that they had entered India at different times to work at brickfields.

Mosharraf added, “Following the push-in, the BGB company commander lodged a verbal objection with his BSF counterpart. A formal objection note from the battalion is currently in process.”

Chhagalnaiya Police Station chief Nazrul Islam said, “The 13 individuals handed over by BGB have been temporarily accommodated in a classroom at Matua Government Primary School under the supervision of the Upazila Executive Officer. They have been provided food and other necessary support.”
