At least four people have been killed and scores injured in clashes between protesters and police in Dhaka’s Uttara during the shutdown across Bangladesh demanding reforms to civil service job quotas.
The four bodies were brought to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital in Uttara on Thursday, its Supervisor Md Mizanur Rahman told http://bdnews24.com.
All of them died on the spot, he said but could not name the victims. One of them was around 45 years old, he added.
One of the four victims at the hospital was a student of Northern University, said Proctor Nazmul Ahsan Khan.
The clashes in Uttara erupted around 11am after police fired sound grenades and tear gas to disperse the protesters who gathered and blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh road.
More than 200 of the injured were taken to Uttara Modern Hospital, said a deputy director of the hospital.
He said some of them had shotgun injuries.
Police comments on the clashes in Uttara were not available.
