They have demanded a healthy and peaceful work environment.
They stood wearing black badges on Wednesday from 12pm to 1pm in front of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University at Shahbagh.
The national doctors’ lobby, Bangladesh Medical Association, organised the pre-scheduled protest.
The BMA said specialist doctors will not work in their private chambers from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday to register their protest and press for the same demands.
“We have always witnessed doctors being attacked on occasions before, but never to the extent we are witnessing now,” BMA President Dr Mahmood Hassan told bdnews24.com.
“It’s wrong to accuse doctors of giving the wrong treatment whenever anything goes wrong,” he added.
He demanded that the culprits who attacked doctors be brought to justice and restoration of a safe environment for doctors to work in.
When asked who the attackers were, he replied that it was the government’s responsibility to find that out.
“The government must punish the attackers.”
Dr Hassan said they would continue this strike all over the country.
BMA Secretary General Dr M Iqbal Arslan and the health advisor to Awami League Dr Bodiuzzaman Bhuiyan were amongst the hundreds of doctors who demonstrated.
