The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has foiled an attempt to push 33 men and women into Bangladesh through three separate border points in Lalmonirhat.
According to the BGB 15 Media Cell, the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) later returned the individuals to its own territory in the face of strict surveillance, increased patrols, and strong positioning by BGB troops.
Earlier on Friday morning, the BGB identified the presence of 33 suspected individuals across three border locations.
These included 11 people at the Barkhata border under the Teesta Battalion (61 BGB), 10 at the Poyshottobari border in Patgram, and 12 at the Dighaltari–Durgapur border area in Aditmari Upazila.
Following the detection, the BGB deployed additional personnel and took tactical positions to prevent any entry into Bangladesh.
As a result, the group remained stranded along the zero line and within Indian territory throughout the day without entering Bangladesh.
Later, between 8:35pm and 8:45pm on Friday, personnel from India’s 157 BSF Battalion’s Chhoto Madhusudan Camp reportedly brought back 11 individuals stationed near border pillar 886 in Burha Sardubi under Hatibandha, moving them back behind the barbed wire.
In a separate incident the same night, 12 individuals positioned at the Durgapur Zero Line were also taken back by BSF personnel after switching off searchlights, according to reports.
On Saturday around 6:30am, the remaining 10 individuals at pillar 846/1-S under Poyshottobari BOP in Patgram were similarly removed by BSF.
Locals said members of India’s 98 BSF Battalion from the Mahanadi Camp opened a border gate, allowed them into the barbed-wire zone, and later transported them away in a pickup van.
BGB’s 15 Media Cell said the situation is now normal at all three border points, adding that strict surveillance and patrol operations continue to prevent any illegal crossings.
In a separate statement, the Rangpur BGB sector headquarters protested the push-in attempt, calling it a violation of international border management norms and bilateral understandings, as it bypassed formal repatriation procedures.
Sector Commander Col SM Shafiqul Rahman said in the statement that BGB remains on maximum alert and has intensified patrols and intelligence monitoring across operational border areas.
