Chief of the Rangamati unit of the doctors' platform BMA, Uday Shankar Dewan, announced the indefinite strike from 12pm at a press conference at the hill-town's Kalindipur earlier in the day.
"Rangamati Sadar Upazila's Health and Family Planning Officer Shushovan Dewan was injured during Saturday's clash. The work stoppage will continue until those responsible are arrested."
He added that Shushovan Dewan was under treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Meanwhile, section 144 – the ban on gathering – is still in force at Rangamati. Border Guards Bangladesh, army and police personnel are patrolling the city.
An argument between a Pahari and a Bengali student at Rangamati Government College on Saturday sparked the clashes, which soon spread in different parts of the city, including College Gate, Bonorupa and Kalindi areas.
The college was closed for indefinite period following the clashes that broke out at 10am on Saturday.
At least 50 injured during the clashes. Two of the injured were admitted in the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital, 28 others at the Combined Military Hospital and the rest at the Rangamati General Hospital.
