With the monsoon approaching, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has unveiled a special crash programme aimed at curbing dengue transmission while also addressing the risk of urban waterlogging across vulnerable areas.
The decision came at a departmental coordination meeting held at the DNCC office in Gulshan on Thursday morning, according to a media statement.
The plan also includes preparations for the swift removal of sacrificial animal waste during the Eid-ul-Azha.
DNCC Administrator Md Safiqul Islam Khan directed officials to ensure the smooth flow of drains and canals so that rainwater does not accumulate in waterlogging-prone areas such as Airport Road and Mirpur.
He instructed the chief engineer and chief waste management officer to take necessary steps to improve drainage capacity before heavy rainfall.
On dengue control, the administrator ordered the chief health officer to further strengthen ongoing efforts to eliminate Aedes mosquito breeding sites across the city.
The meeting also decided to form 10 monitoring teams across DNCC zones to oversee sacrificial waste management during Eid.
In addition, officials were instructed to identify suitable locations for large-scale tree plantation within DNCC areas during the monsoon period as part of broader environmental planning efforts.
