The price of liquefied petroleum gas, or LPG, has been increased by Tk 3.65 per kg, or 3.19 percent, due to a corresponding rise in price in the international market.
Jalal Ahmed, chairman of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission, or BERC, announced the new price on Monday and said it will take effect from the evening.
The commission sets LPG prices on a monthly basis.
For September, the price of LPG has been set at Tk 118.44 per kg, up from Tk 114.79 per kg in August.
As a result, the price of a 12 kg LPG cylinder has increased by Tk 44, bringing it to Tk 1,421.
In August, the 12 kg cylinder was priced at Tk 1,377, while in July, it stood at Tk 1,366.
However, the price of LPG supplied by state-owned companies remains unchanged at Tk 690 per cylinder.
The price of autogas, used in vehicles, has also been revised to Tk 65.26 per litre, up from Tk 63.21.
LPG is made from propane and butane, which are imported from various countries.
The prices of these components are published monthly by Saudi Arabian state energy company Aramco, known as the Saudi Cargo Price, or CP.
The BERC uses this as the base price to adjust LPG prices in the country.
BERC's price adjustment order for September details the process and methodology used to determine the new rates.
According to the report submitted to the commission on Monday by the relevant committee, the Saudi CP for September has been set at $605 per tonne for propane and $595 per tonne for butane.
The committee also considered factors such as shipping costs, traders' premiums, and other charges, along with the actual exchange rate of the dollar in September, which averaged Tk 119.76 per dollar, to recommend the new consumer prices.
