Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay has arrived in Bangladesh for a three-day visit, receiving a warm welcome at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus.
Tobgay touched down shortly after 8:15am on Saturday on a Druk Air flight, accompanied by a delegation of senior officials. The two leaders held a brief meeting at the airport’s VIP lounge, during which the Bhutanese prime minister inquired about Friday’s earthquake and expressed condolences over the loss of lives and damage.

Following the meeting, a guard of honour was presented by a contingent of the Armed Forces.
From the airport, Tobgay travelled to the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar to pay tribute to the fallen heroes of Bangladesh’s Liberation War. He is also scheduled to meet Foreign Minister Touhid Hossain later in the day.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) may be signed during the visit, including agreements on internet bandwidth exchange, recruitment of Bhutanese specialist doctors and health workers, and cooperation in agriculture.

Tobgay is due to hold separate meetings with Touhid and Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin before a one-on-one meeting with Yunus at his Tejgaon office on Saturday afternoon.
Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam said the talks would cover a wide range of bilateral issues, including trade and investment, connectivity, education, energy, telecommunications, tourism, culture, youth and sports, and industry.
A state banquet will be held in honour of the Bhutanese delegation on Saturday evening.

On Sunday, the Bhutanese premier will call on President Md Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban. Several government advisors and a Bangladeshi business delegation are also expected to meet him.
Tobgay will depart Dhaka for Thimphu on the morning of Nov 24, with the foreign affairs advisor seeing him off at the airport.
