Gas supply to Uttara, Uttarkhan, Dakshinkhan and surrounding neighbourhoods was cut after a valve on a pipeline near the Uttara–Tongi Bridge exploded, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company has said.
In a media statement on Tuesday night, the state-run utility said the valve on an industrial customer’s connection line ruptured, releasing gas at high pressure.
“For safety reasons, the 12-inch-diameter main line on Uttara’s distribution network has been kept shut,” the company said.
Titas said work was under way to replace the damaged valve and normal gas supply would resume once repairs were completed. The company apologised to customers for the temporary disruption.
The incident follows a series of recent gas supply problems in Dhaka.
On Jan 10, a pipeline was damaged under the Turag River, while a separate valve explosion on Mirpur Road worsened gas shortages across several parts of the capital. Consumers at the time faced acute difficulties due to low gas pressure.
