Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said fuel rationing has been withdrawn for police, ambulances, Fire Service and other emergency response agencies.
He made the announcement in parliament on Sunday while responding to a point of order over the killing of a customs official in Cumilla.
"Restrictions on police, law-enforcing agencies, ambulances, Fire Service and others engaged in emergency services have been lifted," Tarique said.
"We made this decision two days ago. I hope there will be no further problems."
Earlier, raising the issue on a point of order, Cumilla-6 MP Monirul Haque Chowdhury referred to the killing of customs official Bullet Bairagi in the Upazila.
He said the official had been killed and his body abandoned by unidentified assailants while he was on his way home.
"I called police, and they told me they were facing a fuel shortage. Their duty hours had been reduced, and they could not stay out that late at night," the MP said.
Demanding an immediate withdrawal of the fuel rationing system for police, Monirul warned that such limitations would trigger a crisis in law and order and hinder the safety of citizens.
