The government has placed 13 senior police officers -- 11 deputy inspector generals (DIGs) and two additional DIGs -- into retirement amid a continuing shake-up in the police administration.
The home ministry issued an order on Wednesday, saying the officers were being sent into “retirement in the public interest”.
The officers belong to the 15th, 17th and 18th batches of the Bangladesh Police.
Although there are no formal allegations against them linked to the July movement, internal discussions within the force suggest that during the Awami League government’s tenure they had received different departmental benefits, including promotions.
The ministry order said the decision was taken under Section 45 of the Government Service Act 2018, which allows the government to retire a public servant in the public interest once 25 years of service have been completed, without requiring any explanation.
The provision states that if the appointing authority is the president, prior approval from the president is required.
The order added that the retirement would take immediate effect and the officers would receive all retirement benefits as per rules.
Earlier, on Mar 8, the government had similarly sent five additional inspector general-rank officers into retirement under the same provision.
In recent days, the administration has also reshuffled 30 police positions across multiple ranks as part of broader changes within the force.
