Bangladesh and Pakistan have agreed to set up a Joint Working Group to advance cooperation in the sugar industry.
The decision came in a meeting between Industries Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan and Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan on Thursday, according to a government statement.
Talks also touched on signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and the Pakistan Halal Authority (PHA) to strengthen collaboration in standards and certification.
“The two countries can work together to increase people-to-people contact,” Adilur Rahman Khan said, underlining that Bangladesh seeks cooperation from Pakistan not only in sugar but also in agriculture, leather, cement and shipbuilding.
Kamal said Pakistan was keen to deepen ties across industrial development, agriculture and food security, while also boosting bilateral trade and investment.
