Gazipur journalist's widow says he was murdered by 'hired killers'

She calls for the arrest of those who ordered and financed the attack

The wife of slain Gazipur journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin has alleged that her husband was killed by hired assassins.

She called for the arrest of those who ordered and financed the attack at a media briefing at Gazipur Press Club on Tuesday.

“My husband was murdered by hired killers. Those who provided the money and instigated the attack must also be arrested quickly,” she said, without offering further details to support the claim.

Mukta thanked journalists for their role in uncovering the facts of the case, including the release of CCTV footage of the killing. Without the media's efforts, the evidence may have been lost like in the Sagar-Runi murder case, she said, referring to the unsolved 2012 murder of a journalist couple in Dhaka.

She added that her family wanted to urgently meet the interim government’s law advisor, home affairs advisor, and the country’s police chief.

In a written statement, Mukta outlined seven demands to the authorities, including the swift arrest of all suspects linked to the killing, a speedy trial, ensuring the safety of witnesses, and state support for Tuhin’s children.

She also called for journalists’ safety to be ensured nationwide, including the introduction of a dedicated hotline.

Tuhin, 38, a staff reporter for Dainik Protidiner Kagoj in Gazipur, was hacked and had his throat cut in broad daylight at Gazipur city's Chandona Chowrasta on Aug 7.

Police have arrested eight suspects in connection with the murder.
