Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has urged police to distance themselves from political parties and stand by the people of the country.
Speaking at the inauguration of the “Election Training Programme” at the Rajarbagh Police Lines Auditorium in Dhaka on Sunday, Jahangir instructed officers to refrain from supporting any political party or providing them with special benefits.
“Don’t consider yourself a political worker. Remember, muscle power can never establish peace. Those who are defeated now will be much stronger than you in 10 years,” he said.
More than 150 trainees participated in the session, part of a nationwide programme aimed at enhancing the skills and professionalism of policemen in carrying out election duties.
The training will continue in stages across the country until Dec 15, ahead of the 13th parliamentary elections scheduled for February.
“All police work is in the public interest and governed by law,” Jahangir reminded officers. “I am saying this again. Please stay away from political parties.”
“If you start oiling now, you will run out of oil after the elections. The one who is reserving the oil right now will use up by then. That is why you should not incline towards any party. You should try to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people.”
