Nearly four years after the circular was published, the final results of the 44th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) exams have been released, with 1,690 candidates declared successful.
In a media statement, the Public Service Commission (PSC) published the results on Monday night.
Out of 1,710 posts, 20 could not be filled in the technical and professional cadres due to the absence of qualified candidates, the PSC said in a statement issued at 11:30pm.
Detailed information on the candidates’ selection will be available on the commission’s website (www.bpsc.gov.bd) and on the website of Teletalk Bangladesh Limited (http://bpsc.teletalk.com.bd), it read.
The PSC had earlier announced in its roadmap covering five BCS examinations that the results would be published on Jun 30 -- a deadline that has been met with the 44th BCS results.
The circular for the exam was issued on Nov 30, 2021, to recruit 1,710 officers for different cadre positions.
The commission, however, noted that despite candidates passing both the written and viva examinations, not all of them could be nominated for cadre posts.
For those who were not nominated for cadre positions, the PSC promised to recommend them for non-cadre posts in accordance with relevant government rules, subject to the availability of vacant positions and upon receiving a formal requisition from the government.
The recommendation process will follow merit order and applicable regulations, it added.
The oral test for this BCS began in April last year, but it was suspended twice -- first due to the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, and again on Aug 25 following a change in the government.
Out of 11,732 candidates who passed the written test, 3,930 candidates had already faced the viva board.
After the change in political leadership, and in response to appeals from candidates seeking fairness, the commission decided to revoke the previous viva exams conducted by the former commission and hold fresh interviews.
The final results followed the completion of the new viva exams.
