Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering arrived in Dhaka on Friday on a four-day official visit at the invitation of his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina.
A 20-strong high-level delegation has accompanied Tshering, who was received by Hasina at the VVIP terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and was accorded a 19-gun salute.
Shortly after his arrival, he paid his respects at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar and the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in Dhanmondi 32.
The foreign ministry said that it expects five memoranda of understanding to be signed after official talks between the two premiers on Saturday, in an effort to strengthen cooperation between the countries in the areas of health, agriculture, shipping, tourism and public administration training.
Tshering will meet President Md Abdul Hamid before joining a banquet hosted in his honour by Hasina on Saturday.
On April 14, he will join the Pahela Baishakh celebrations at a cultural event at BICC in Dhaka.
Later, he will visit his alma mater, Mymensingh Medical College, and meet with students and faculty there.
With Bhutan being a member of BIMSTEC, the Bhutanese premier will also visit the BIMSTEC Secretariat in Dhaka.
Tshering along with his business delegation will also participate in an interactive session with the FBCCI and other stakeholders where Bangladesh’s commerce minister, private industry and investment advisor to the prime minister and the state minister for power, energy and mineral resources will be present.
His packed schedule also includes appointments with Bangladesh’s foreign minister, health minister, shipping minister and commerce minister.
