Dhaka, Feb 20 (bdnews24.com) -- Foreign affairs adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury Tuesday left for New York to hand over the signed 'instrument of accession' on the UN anticorruption convention to the United Nations.
The adviser will also brief UN secretary general Ban Ki-Moon on Bangladesh's current situation. Chowdhury will return to Dhaka early next month.
"I will meet the UN secretary general and other UN senior officials on February 27-28 to apprise them of the current situation and steps so far taken by the government," he told reporters at Zia International Airport before his departure.
Chowdhury will also meet under-secretary for UN peacekeeping mission Jean Marie Guehenno and UN deputy secretary general Asha Rose Migiro and discuss Bangladesh's role in the UN and peacekeeping missions.
On the issue of UN anticorruption issue, he said: "Bangladesh has agreed to sign the UN Convention against Corruption to follow international standards in combating it."
Acting foreign secretary Touhid Hossain and other senior officials of the foreign ministry were present at airport to see the adviser off.
