A local Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal leader has been hacked to death in broad daylight in Khulna's Digholia over a “power struggle”, with rivals accused of the attack.

The attack took place on Friday afternoon outside the Technical Training Centre (TTC) in Senhati, said Shah Alam, chief of Digholia Police.

The dead, Khan Murad, 45, served as senior joint convenor of Senhati Union Jubo Dal and was also involved in the dredging business.

Police and witnesses said Murad was returning home from Khulna city when several youths blocked his path near the Senhati Miapara Mosque.

He ran into a nearby shop for safety, but the unidentified attackers dragged him out and hacked him indiscriminately.

Local residents rescued Murad and rushed him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where emergency doctors declared him dead.

Police later recovered the body and sent it to the morgue. The victim had stab wounds on his back and thigh.

Officer Alam said preliminary findings indicate the victim was linked to Jubo Dal politics while the attackers were associated with Chhatra Dal.

About a week earlier, the two sides had a dispute over a tender, and investigators believe the attack stemmed from that incident.

He added that suspects have been identified and police operations are under way to apprehend them.

Khulna District Police Superintendent Md Mahbubur Rahman said officers reached the scene immediately and are actively investigating to uncover the motive and arrest those responsible.
