The BCS General Education Association has called for a sit-in at all government colleges across Bangladesh to protest an alleged attack on Dhaka College teachers.

In a statement issued on Monday, the association announced that teachers would refrain from entering classrooms and instead stage a sit-in at their institutions on Tuesday.

According to the statement, miscreants attacked teachers, officials, and students of Dhaka College on Monday and vandalised the teachers’ lounge.

In protest, the association urged all government colleges, madrasas, and related offices to observe a work stoppage and wear black badges during the sit-in.

However, some students have countered the claims, raising allegations against the teachers.

Near the Shikkha Bhaban, Dhaka College student Tanjimul Abir said: “It’s shameful to say that our teachers beat up a student and split his head open. Another student’s leg was twisted.”

The incident occurred on Monday morning when students from seven colleges were preparing for a march demanding the final ordinance for the proposed Dhaka Central University.

A scuffle reportedly broke out between teachers and students, leading to a student being confined to a common room. His peers later besieged the administrative building and freed him, before calm was restored.
