A five-year-old child has allegedly been kidnapped from Patiya Upazila in Chattogram, with the kidnappers leaving behind a handwritten note demanding a ransom of Tk 300,000 for his safe release.

The child, identified as Md Zayan, went missing on Tuesday afternoon from outside his residence in Dakshin Gobindarkhil village under the Patiya municipality, his family said.

Zayan’s father Md Shahjahan, a garage owner, told local journalists that his son went missing around noon.

At 3:30pm, he found a handwritten note inside his house demanding Tk 300,000 as ransom.

He later filed a complaint at Patiya Police Station after failing to trace the child until evening.

The note also warned that the child would be killed if the demand was not met or if police were informed.

According to the note provided by Shahjahan, the kidnappers claimed the boy was in their custody and instructed him to deliver Tk 300,000 within half an hour, along with an unlocked mobile phone from a family member, and leave it in a bag near a broken shop by the roadside near the house.

Shahjahan said he did not know who placed the note inside his house and denied having any personal enmity with anyone.

Patiya Police chief Ziaul Haque said the family reported finding the note but had not received any phone calls.

“We are treating the matter with importance. Alongside police, detective units are working to rescue the child,” he said.
