Chief Advisor’s Special Assistant Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, the former police chief who oversaw the home ministry, has resigned.
The Cabinet Division issued a notification on the matter Wednesday night, a development also confirmed by Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
It remains unclear when Khuda Baksh tendered his resignation.
He was appointed on Nov 10 last year as one of three special assistants with the rank of state minister.
Following the assassination of Inqilab Moncho Convenor Sharif Osman bin Hadi, calls grew for Home Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Khuda Baksh to stand down.
Several media outlets reported possible reshuffles within the interim cabinet.
Reports also suggested that National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman could replace Jahangir as home advisor amid rumours that Khuda Baksh might be pushed out.
A veteran of the 1979 police batch, Khuda Baksh served as the inspector general of police (IGP) in 2006 during the BNP-led coalition government and continued in the role under the then president Iajuddin Ahmed's caretaker administration.
He later served as a Special Officer on Duty (SOD) in the establishment ministry during the Fakhruddin Ahmed-led government before opting for voluntary retirement in March 2010.
