The government will soon introduce multiple train services on the Mongla-Khulna rail route, Road Transport and Communications Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam has said.

Speaking to journalists after his first official visit to the Mongla Port, the minister also announced a 180-day priority plan to bring radical changes to the port’s management.

Highlighting the need for better regional infrastructure, he said the government is prioritising the construction of a suspension bridge over the Mongla River.

"We are working to launch multiple trains on the Mongla-Khulna route as quickly as possible," Shaikh Rabiul said.

He said the government has plans to transform Mongla into a fully functional and effective port on par with Chattogram.

The minister noted that Mongla Port has been included in the government's 180-day priority work plan.

He is hopeful about changes becoming visible within the next six months.

Responding to queries regarding suspended or cancelled development agreements signed between Mongla and neighbouring countries, the minister took a cautious stance.

"Any agreement will be reconsidered with the national interest as the top priority," he clarified.

"Contracts that were previously found to be detrimental to the country will be deeply evaluated before any decision on reactivation is made."
