Three people have been killed in separate lightning strikes in Tangail and Barishal, including a father and his daughter.

The father and daughter died in Tangail’s Delduar Upazila around 1:30pm on Friday.

They have been identified as Khalidul Islam, 30, and Khadija Akter, 10.

They were on their way to a wedding feast in the nearby Fazilhati Union, said Johra Sultana Zuthi, administrator (UNO) of Delduar Upazila.

Relatives said Khalidul, an NGO worker in Gazipur, went to his village home on Thursday.

Later, he went to his in-laws' house in Fazilhati Union with his wife and daughter.

As they were heading for the feast in a nearby village, Khalidul and Khadija were seriously injured in a lightning strike, dying on the spot.

UNO Zuthi said the child was in her father's lap when lightning struck.

A teenager in Barishal died while returning home from his fish farm in Agailjhara Upazila of Barishal.

He was struck by lightning around 11:30am in, said Agailjhara Police Sub-Inspector Samir Roy.

The dead was identified as Tanvir Khan, 18.

As Tanvir set off towards home in the rain, he was struck by lightning.

He was immediately taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Agailjhara Police chief Masud Khan said they prepared an inquest report and handed over the body to the family.

An unnatural death case was filed over the incident, he said.
