BSF pushes family of four across Feni border

Originally from Chattogram, the family has lived in India for the last 46 years

The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has pushed four Bangladeshi nationals across the Feni border.

The incident took place early Thursday morning, and the four individuals have been detained, confirmed Lieutenant Colonel Mir Ali Ejaz, captain of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Feni Battalion-10.

The detainees have been identified as Tahidul Alam from Chattogram’s Fatikchhari, his wife Hajera Khatun, their son Md Shoeb, and daughter Mosammat Shabnam.

According to Tahidul, he had travelled to India with his wife in 1979 in search of work. The couple had been living there for many years and had two children during their stay.

Recently, they were detained by Indian police in Mumbai and later transferred to Agartala in the Indian state of Tripura. From there, they were pushed across the border into Bangladesh by the BSF.

The BGB reported that the four were handed over to Feni Model Police Station later in the afternoon, where they are being held.

Their relatives have been informed, and the formal handover process is under way.

Over the past two months, the BSF has pushed a total of 65 people into Bangladesh across the Feni border in four separate incidents.

These include four members of the same family on Jun 26 through the Dharmapur border, 11 people on Jun 19 and later 13 people on May 30 via the Chhagalnaiya border, and 37 people on May 22 through the Fulgazi and Chhagalnaiya borders.
